FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Merawi Gerima: (202) 386-8725
What: Press Conference
Who: DC Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (DCAARPR), lawyers of the
victim, Colectivo De Familias Migrantes (CFM), DC Against the Trump Agenda (DCATA)
and other community organizations
When: Tuesday, October 28th at 10 am.
Where: Metropolitan Police Department Headquarters, 441 4th St NW Washington DC
Why: Federal agents in Washington, DC shot multiple times at an unarmed Black man
during a routine traffic stop, nearly killing him, and MPD has been forced in court to
admit under oath that they tried to cover it up. This incident occurred in the lawless
policing environment that DC Mayor Bowser has created by rolling out the red carpet for
Trump’s Federal takeover of DC.
The people of DC have made it clear that Bowser must rescind her executive order
mandating local coordination with federal agencies and law enforcement. But this case
exemplifies exactly why we need Community Control of the Police — giving
communities democratic control over police policies, budgets, and accountability.
The DC Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression demands:
- Community control of the police.
- Mayor Bowser and Council member Pinto call for a special independent
investigation into this cover-up and fire all officers involved. - Mayor Bowser and Council member Pinto mandate the release of all data on all
MPD stops that involved Federal agents. - Mayor Boswer immediately rescind Executive Order 25-005 which mandates
local coordination with Federal law enforcement.
