PBS to Host Environmental Justice Panel at Howard University

Washington, D.C. Howard University’s WHUT-TV, the nation’s only Black-owned public television station and PBS affiliate, is proud to announce an upcoming panel discussion titled “From Awareness to Action: Building Resilient Communities Through Environmental Justice.” The event will take place on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. ET at WHUT-TV, Studio D, located at Howard University, 2222 4th Street NW, Washington, DC 20059. The presentation will be live-streamed on WHUT-TV’s YouTube page and published for television broadcast at a later date.

The panel is presented by the Gwendolyn S. & Colbert I. King Endowed Chair in Public Policy and will be chaired by Trustee Emerita Marie C. Johns (DHL ’13). Rubin Patterson, Ph.D. (Ph.D. ’92), Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, will serve as moderator.

The panel discussion will feature Dr. Ben Chavis, Kari Fulton, and Akiima Price, who will discuss strategies for building resilient communities and advancing environmental justice. Afterwards, Charles Lee and Hailey Morris will offer individual reflections on the panel. Lee will consider the long legacy of Environmental Justice, while Morris will discuss a Gen Z vision for the future.

“From Awareness to Action: Building Resilient Communities Through Environmental Justice” is a unique in-person and virtual opportunity to explore and discuss innovative approaches to community empowerment and environmental stewardship.
