Editor’s Note: Now is the Time to Check The Weather

“The people must know before they can act, and there is no educator to compare with the press” – Ida B. Wells

For as long as I can remember, I’ve believed in the power of people and our ability to come together, share stories, and create change from the ground up. Before I was an organizer, I was a teenager, speaking out for racial equity in education. Those early experiences of speaking up, even when I felt scared, taught me that real change begins when everyday people get together and listen to one another.

Over the years, that same belief has guided everything I do — from working alongside communities fighting for Climate Justice, helping shape policy that centers and respects frontline leadership, to raising my son and teaching him that care for community is one of the most powerful forms of leadership.

That’s why Checktheweather.net was created: to cultivate a space with and for community empowerment, where truth, culture, and connection come together.

Building a Shared Space for Change

Check The Weather is an independent, community-driven platform for people who care about the world we live in. This is not just about the weather. This platform also highlights the social, political, and cultural climates that shape our daily lives.

Visit Checktheweather.net for, community news, profiles, local events, and creative voices that too often get overlooked. This isn’t just about stories — it’s about perspective. It’s about reclaiming the power to define what matters, to name our challenges, and to celebrate our resilience.

At its heart, Check The Weather is an invitation:

  • to stay informed,
  • to stay connected, and
  • to build something together.

This platform is a conversation — one rooted in trust, care, and the collective work of imagining a better world.
